Visions, Values and Mission Statement

Our Mission

At St. Mary’s, we are a warm, welcoming community dedicated to inspiring every child, from ages 3 to 11, to learn and grow in an environment filled with Gospel values. We cherish the uniqueness of each individual, aiming to nurture and celebrate every child’s potential in learning, confidence, cooperation, and responsibility.

Please take a moment to read our St. Mary’s Mission Statement, which was thoughtfully created together with our entire school community. We regularly share and explore its message with the children, helping them connect with its meaning.

Our Year 3 children recently reflected on our Mission Statement, drawing inspiration from St. Paul’s letters, and created this beautiful artwork to share their understanding.

St. Mary’s is part of Plymouth CAST, our family of schools founded by the Diocese of Plymouth. Together, we share a vision of educational excellence, and our school’s mission is closely aligned with the principles outlined in Plymouth CAST’s Vision for Excellence document, which you can read below.

Our school also holds a truly special place within both its history and setting. Located in the heart of Buckfast village, St. Mary’s is part of the beautiful Buckfast Abbey estate, just a short distance from the Abbey itself and nestled in the stunning surroundings of Dartmoor National Park.

Our beautiful school building dates back to 1893 and has been lovingly updated over the years. With major investments of over a million pounds, we have continually enhanced our facilities to create a vibrant learning environment for our children. These improvements include a brand-new Early Years classroom with a dedicated outdoor area, an expansive playground, a modern school hall, new offices and reception area, and even an outdoor amphitheatre—each space designed to enrich our children’s daily experiences.
